A place for craftsmanship, creativity and connection
Ást Atelier was founded by Julie Thornberg-Thorsøe and Kaurna Cronin as a space dedicated to craftsmanship, independent creative practice and the appreciation of things made with care.
Located in the heart of Adelaide Arcade, South Australia, Ást Atelier brought together artists, makers, tailors and designers whose work shared a common appreciation for thoughtful processes, quality materials and the stories held within handmade pieces.
The physical atelier was created as more than a retail space. It was a place where people could experience craftsmanship firsthand, discover the people behind the work, and connect with pieces made with intention.
At the heart of Ást Atelier is a belief in continuity and care.
We value the knowledge, time and skill behind every creation, whether it is a garment carefully tailored, a piece of artwork, or an object made by hand. We believe the things we surround ourselves with should be chosen thoughtfully, cared for and valued over time.
After our time in Adelaide Arcade, we made the decision to close the physical atelier and begin the next chapter of Ást Atelier.
While the space gave us the opportunity to build a wonderful community locally, we realised that the vision behind Ást Atelier could extend beyond one location. The connections, conversations and appreciation for craftsmanship that grew within the space are what we want to continue developing in a new way.
Today, Ást Atelier is evolving into an online platform connecting artists, makers and independent creative practices across different places and disciplines. Through carefully selected handmade work, future collaborations and creative projects, we aim to continue creating a space where craftsmanship is celebrated and where makers have the opportunity to share their work with a wider community.
This next chapter is being built slowly and intentionally. We believe meaningful communities are created through genuine relationships, thoughtful curation and a shared respect for the work itself.
As we travel, meet new artists and continue developing these relationships, Ást Atelier will grow into a community centred around craftsmanship, creativity and the stories behind the things we choose to keep.
Although the format has changed, the purpose remains the same: to honour craftsmanship, support independent makers and create lasting connections through the work we share.

CO-FOUNDER AND PRINCIPAL DESIGNER
Julie Thornberg-Thorsøe brings over 20 years of experience in craftsmanship, tailoring and fashion design to Ást Atelier. With a background as a trained tailor and a Master's degree in Fashion Design from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, she combines deep technical knowledge with a lifelong dedication to thoughtful design and handmade processes.
Through her own fashion label JUTHO, Julie continues to explore sustainable approaches to clothing, craftsmanship and materiality, bringing a considered perspective on longevity, quality and the value of making.
CO-FOUNDER
Kaurna Cronin brings extensive experience as a creative entrepreneur, artist and independent business owner to Ást Atelier. As an Australian folk-rock singer-songwriter with over fifteen years of international creative practice, he has built a career rooted in storytelling, collaboration and connecting with audiences around the world.
With a deep understanding of the creative process and the realities of building sustainable creative businesses, Kaurna contributes his experience in business development, communication and creative direction to the growth of Ást Atelier.
